The number of inspections made to Home Workers' Dwellings
was 108. Certain insanitary conditions, but not of such degree as to
merit the term "unwholesome," were found, either as a result of
these visits or previous inspections, in nine instances. Five Notices
were served and the conditions remedied.
Underground Bakehouses. It will be recollected that Borough
Councils are not empowered to remove from the Register such underground
bakehouses as have been properly registered but have become
disused. Suggestions have been made that this power should be
granted. Pending such legislation, steps have been taken to supply
the District Surveyor with a list of all underground bakehouses with a
request that, should structural alterations be proposed with a view to
their being again used, he will notify the Borough Council to that effect.
