3. Consulting Obstetricians.
The circumstances under which the services of Consulting Obstetricians
can be requisitioned may be summarised as follows:—
(a) In the case of Puerperal Fever or Pyrexia. The Borough
Council has an arrangement by which any Medical Practitioner
may obtain the opinion of Mr. W. Gilliatt, m.d., f.r.c.S., of
103 Harley Street, W., (Mr. Gilliatt also acts in a consulting
capacity in respect of any complicated midwifery cases in the
Borough Council's Maternity Home; details given under Para.4.)
(b) Complicated Midwifery Cases. In 1930, the Borough Council,
upon my representation, decided to make provision for any
Medical Practitioner to obtain the help of a Consultant where
pregnancy or labour is abnormal. The following two Consultants
have been appointed by the Borough Council:—
Mr. George F. Gibberd, f.r.C.S., 121 Harley Street, W. 1,
Mr. Arnold L.Walker, F.r.C.S., 44 Queen Anne Street, W.l.
The scheme provides for the recovery of all or part of the Consultants
fee where circumstances warrant it.
