2. Welfare Centres.
(a) Infant Welfare. At the commencement of the year there
were eight Centres located in different parts of the Borough. One of
these was a voluntary Centre although the medical and nursing staff
was provided by the Borough Council.
During the year, a decision was taken to open a further Municipal
Centre. Premises in Church Street were accordingly rented and the
staff which formerly attended the voluntary centre was attached to
the new centre. The attendances at this centre appeared to indicate
that this extension of the Borough Council's activities was fully iustified.
At all the Centres, the services of those ladies who assist in a
voluntary capacity is very helpful and greatly appreciated.
The following is a summary of the work done at the various Infant
Welfare Clinics during the year:—
