Deaths.
In order to express the number of deaths as a death-rate applicable
to the Borough, it is necessary to make allowance in respect of deaths
of persons occurring within, but belonging outside the Borough, and,
conversely, for those who died while temporarily living outside Deptford.
Total deaths registered in the Borough 830
Deduct deaths of "non-residents" 139
691
Add deaths of "residents" outside Borough 790
Nett deaths applicable 1,481
This is equivalent to a death-rate of 13.3 per 1,000 persons, an
increase of 10-8 per cent, over the figure of 1928. To some extent
this is due to the epidemic of influenza in the early part of the year,
and to the severe weather at that time, to which causes has been
attributed the increased death-rate in the country generally. This
increase is shown by a comparison of the deaths occurring in the
several quarters of the years 1928 and 1929.
