From the Registrar.General's table I have selected and put together
in the accompanying table the list of occupations for Deptford and the
adjoining boroughs, Greenwich, Woolwich, Lewisham, Camberwell,
and Bermondsey, in such a way that the reader can see at a glance the
proportion of people per 1„000 engaged in the same industry in each of
these five boroughs. Further, I have placed the occupations in a
column in such a way that by reading down the list, from 1, 2, 3,
onwards, one can learn the chief occupation of Deptford, the second,
third and so on, thereby gaining exact information as to the relative
proportions of the workers per 1,000 engaged in industry, etc. It is
Deptford's story, in short, and is surely worthy of thoughtful attention.
