Tooting and 84 in Wandsworth. As the number of births was
4,197 the Infantile Morality rate was 62 per 1,000 births, compared
with 59 last year.
The infantile mortality rate is 62, compared with 62,
the decennial average. The rate is lower than that for the whole
of London, which was 66 per 1,000 births.
For the 10 years ending 1918 the average infantile mortality
rate was 87, while the 10 years ending 1931 the average rate
was 56. This fall represents a saving of nearly 200 infant lives
per annum.
The number of deaths among legitimate infants was 241
to 3,998 births-—a mortality of 60 per 1,000 births, while the
number of deaths among illegitimate infants was 20 to 199 births
—a mortality of 100 per 1,000 births.
Table VII. gives the corrected number of deaths, and the
cause of death, at various periods up to one year of age.
