Maternal Mortality.
Eight deaths occurred from accidents and diseases of
pregnancy and 15 from Puerperal Fever, giving a total of 23
deaths after childbirth. This is equivalent to a rate of 4.9 per
1,000 births, compared with 4.54 in 1928.
Enquiries into all maternal deaths, which were instituted in
1928 at the instance of the Ministry of Health have been continued.
In several of these deaths Dr. Leonard Phillips, who
was appointed for the purpose last year, has carried out the
investigations.
