Patients who are actually fit for work, but who are unable to obtain
employment, greatly appreciate the class and find real enjoyment in
useful occupation. The average weekly attendance is from 10 to 14
patients.
A most encouraging Sale of Work was held in December, when the
goods made by the patients were on view at the Dispensary, and the
sum of £10 10s. Od. was raised. The amount was divided between the
General Fund and the patients concerned.
DIAGNOSIS OF TUBERCULOSIS.
X-Ray examination of patients for the purposes of investigation
and diagnosis is carried out at Guy's Hospital, 74 patients being sent
there for such examination during the year.
Sputum examinations were carried out for Dispensary patients
to the extent of 475 specimens.
PROVISION OF EXTRA NOURISHMENT.
The Ministry of Health Regulations allow extra nourishment to
be given to necessitous patients attending the Dispensary. Allowances
of milk, butter, eggs, etc., have been granted to 39 patients during
the year.
Patients already in receipt of relief from the Public Assistance
Committee of the L.C.C. have been recommended to the appropriate
Committee for extra nourishment suitable to their state of health. All
such recommendations have received every consideration. Cases also
sent for the supplying of necessary clothes have been promptly dealt
Avith by the Committee concerned.
Very excellent help has also been given in various ways by the
Charity Organisation Society, the British Red Cross, the United Services
Fund and the National Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis.
SUPERVISION OF HOME CONDITIONS.
Visits are paid by the three Tuberculosis Nurses on the Dispensary
staff to all notified cases of Tuberculosis.
Reports relating to the home conditions of the patients are made
to the Clinical Tuberculosis Officer.
