INFECTIOUS DISEASES IN THE PUBLIC ELEMENTARY
SCHOOLS.
On inquiry into the several cases of infectious disease, it was found that,
of the children who had been attacked, 836 were scholars attending the Public
Elementary Schools, as compared with 998 in 1906, and an average of 970 in
the preceding 10 years. The proportion of patients attending the schools to
the total number of cases was 13.9 per cent.
The return shows that Scarlet Fever was responsible for 608 cases among
scholars, Diphtheria for '216, Enteric Fever for 11, and other notifiable diseases
for 1.
A return has been prepared showing the number of scholars attacked with
each disease during the preceding 10 years. It is as follows:—
