Steps were taken to trace these brushes, and, in the case
of two retail firms, the greater number of the brushes were
found to be unsold, and were returned to the wholesalers. It
was found impossible to trace the two brushes which had been
sold.
A large wholesale firm in the Borough had obtained a stock
amounting to 10 gross brushes. The firm offered every assistance
in tracing the distribution of the brushes, a large number
of which had been sold to their customers in various parts of
the Kingdom. Information was sent to the Medical Officers of
Health of the districts concerned, and, in some cases, notification
was received that steps were being taken to see that all
brushes which could be found should be returned to the wholesale
firm. With regard to the unsold brushes still in the possession
of the wholesale firm, amounting to 63 dozen, it was
arranged to return the remainder of the stock to the importers,
a firm in the City of London, and the Medical Officer of Health
of the City was duly advised.
Every assistance was given to the Officers of the Council
in carrying out this troublesome duty, and in view of the long
period which had elapsed between the time of the arrival of
the brushes in Battersea and the date the notification was
received, much difficulty was experienced in tracing the
distribution of the brushes.
No case of Anthrax was notified in Battersea during the
year.
