The Population at Midsummer is estimated to
have been 99,180.
In 1895 and in 1896, out of every 1,000 of the
population 4.3 each year were admitted to the hospital;
in 1897 the proportion was 5.0, in 1898 it has been
rather lower, 4.7.
Of Scarlet Fever alone, the proportion in 1896,
was 3.3; in 1897, 3.5; in the present year, 2.2.
Of Diphtheria in 1896 it was 0.6; in 1897, 1.4;
in 1898, 2.2 per 1,000.
