Customs and
Inland Revenue
Acts
Applications for certificates under Section 26 of the Customs and
Inland Revenue Acts 1890 and 1891 were made with respect to the
following properties:—
Nos. 46, 48 and 50, Milton Road.
Nos. 1 to 15, Garfield Road.
After inspection of the premises and the carrying out of certain
requirements a certificate was granted with respect to the former
block of dwellings, but not to the latter, where the conditions were
such that I could not certify that the houses were constructed as
to afford suitable accommodation for the persons or families
inhabiting them, and that "due provision was made for their sanitary
requirements."
Petroleum
Acts
*871-79-
There are 14 persons on the register licensed for the storage and
sale of petroleum, an increase of 2 on last year.
Samples have been taken from each vendor and tested as required
by the Act, and in no instance was the flash point below 76° F.
Thirty visits were paid to the licensed premises, and the regulations
and conditions of the license found to be complied with on each
occasion.
I take this opportunity of expressing my appreciation of the
valuable assistance rendered to me by Mr. Johnson during my
illness resulting from a carriage accident early in the year.
The tact and zeal displayed by him in dealing with fmatters
requiring special attention is beyond praise, and the thoroughly
efficient organisation of the Sanitary Department and the excellent
manner in which the whole of the Staff have carried out their duties
during the year speak volumes for Mr. Johnson's untiring energy.
Pages 19 to 29 and Table 5 give particulars of work carried out by
the Staff under his supervision.
I have the honour to be,
Your obedient Servant,
E. POCKLINGTON,
Medical Officer of Health.
