During the year 346 complaints of nuisances were received
and investigated.
This has been an exceptionally busy year owing, chiefly, to
the epidemic of Measles in the district, and to promptly deal with
this and urgent work in connection with other infectious diseases
and the removal of nuisances, etc., it necessitated the devoting, by
the Staff of the Department, of a considerable amount of time
beyond official hours. This I am pleased to say was given voluntarily
and willingly as the occasion required.
In regard to the work of the Sanitary Inspector
(Mr. Johnson) and his staff, I can only say that the
high state of efficiency with which they have worked
in the past has been maintained, and the work of the
year only adds to the high reputation I have formed
of him and them.
I have the honour to be,
Your obedient servant,
E. POCKLINGTON,
Medical Officer of Health.
* The main drains at these houses were reconstructed by the Council
at the costs of the owners, they having made default in complying with the
notices served upon then).
** These main drains were reconstructed by the Council as sewers within
the meaning of the Public Health Act, 1875.
*** Notices were served on the owners to relay the main and branch
drains of these premises. Owing lo the diversion of the main drain into a
more recently constructed sewer, it was reconstructed at the cost of the
Council.
