mortality is represented by a ratio of 37 deaths per thousand
registered births, this being- a decrease of 23 per thousand on
last year, and 24 per thousand on the average for the past
five years. The rate for England and Wales was 89.
In addition to the deaths from Zymotic Diseases, the
principal causes of death were as follows: —
Pneumonia (all forms) 40
Bronchitis 57
Other Respiratory Diseases 8
Cancer 80
Phthisis 42
Other Forms of Tuberculosis 9
Nephritis and Blight's Disease 24
Congenital Debility and Malformation
(including Premature Births) 18
Organic Heart Disease 65

Table B shows for the same years the number of infectious
cases notified, and the deaths from each disease.
Table C shows the death-rate from Zymotic Diseases,
Phthisis, and other forms of Tuberculosis for the past ten
years.
For the past nine years the figures given in these Tables
are those obtained after correction by exclusion of "NonResidents"
and the inclusion of "Residents" beyond the
district.
