Of the total 8,730 births registered in the year 131 were
illegitimate, and of the total infant deaths 75 were illegitimate, so that
the infantile mortality among the illegitimate children was 572 per
1,000 births, while that among the legitimate children was only 117
per 1,000 births.
Factory and Workshops Act, 1901.—Section 132
provides that the Medical Officer of Health of every district council
shall, in his annual report to them, report specifically on the administration
of this Act in workshops and workplaces, and he shall send a
copy of his annual report, or so much of it as deals with this subject,
to the Secretary of State.
