Unhealthy Areas .—I am not prepared to say, definitely, that there are any areas within the District which are so insanitary or unhealthy as to render the houses within such areas unfitfor habitatiton, but there are one or two localities where, perhaps, the condition of some of the dwelling-houses— owing to extreme age—falls below a reasonable standard.

PREVALENCE OF AND CONTROL OVER INFECTIOUS
DISEASE.
Diptheria.—Forty-seven cases were reported with three
deaths, which equals an incidence rate of 2.5 per 1,000 of
estimated population, and a death-rate of .1 per 1,000 of
population.
The monthly incidence was as follows;—12 in January, 9
in February, 5 in March, 3 in April, 2 in May, 6 in June, 2 in
July, 2 in August, 1 in September, 1 in October, 1 in November,
and 3 in December.
Of the 47 cases notified 4 2 were removed to hospital and 5
were treated Ht home.

Scarlet Fever.—Sixty-five cases were notified, which
equals an incidence rate of 3.5 per 1,000 of estimated population.
Apparently, the infection was of a mild type as no deaths were
registered.
