INFANT ILK DIARRHœA.
It was to be expected that deaths from this disease would
occur during the excessively hot Summer. The numbers for the
quarter April to June were 1 under 1 year of age and 2 over, for
the quarter July to September, 24 under 1 year of age and 5 over,
and for the last quarter 6 under 1 year of age and 1 over.
In the Jnly quarter the deaths were 26 under 2 years of age
as compared with 32 in Aldershot and 38 in Wimbledon.
The Surrey rates for Infantile Mortality during the same
period : —
Aldershot, 182 per 1000 births.
Guildford, 142 „
Kingston, 174 „
Penge, 152 „
Reigate, 137 „
Richmond, 170 „
Wimbledon 139 „
The number of deaths from this disease under 2 years works
out at 26 per 1000 births. Amongst the lowest rates are 146 in
Hornsey and 1.88 in Bournemouth. In certain manufacturing
towns the rate went up to 7 and 8 per 1000. The rate for England
and Wales minus the 77 great towns was 2 47 per 1000. almost
identical with our own. In other years of epidemic prevalence the
rates have been in this town:—

In other years the rate has been below 1 per 1000.
