OF THE
MEDICAL OFFICER of HEALTH.

Gentlemen,
I have the honour to present to you my Eighth Annual
Report on the health of the Borough.
During the year the only disease assuming epidemic form has
been Measles. Apart from this the health of the Borough has
been most satisfactory.
The total number of births registered during the year was
988, giving an annual birth-rate of 26.9 per 1,000. The
average for the last ten years is 30.3 per 1,000. The births
among different classes of the community may be roughly classed
under professional class 21, trading class 124, working
class 843. There were 53 illegitimate births, a rate of 21
per 1,000 births, as compared with 42 per 1,000 for England and
Wales.
The deaths registered were 515, giving a death-rate of 14.06
per 1,000. The Zymotic death-rate is 1.2 per 1,000, as compared
with 2.1 for the last seven years.
The Infant Mortality, that is the deaths of children under
one year of age, per 1,000 births is 111.3, as compared with 138
for the last ten years.
