Defective Speech.
Of the 1,494 children examined 8 had marked defects of
speech. Marked defect of articulation was present in 7 cases
—4 boys and 3 girls (infants), and in 1 instance a pronounced
lisp was present.
Clothing and Footgear.
The following tables shew the number of children whose
clothing or footgear was unsatisfactory or bad:—

From the above figures it will be seen that of the boys
23.9 per cent. are wearing clothes and 16.9 per cent. are
wearing boots which cannot be considered to be satisfactory.
Of the girls. 9.4 have clothes and 9.9 have boots of the same
standard.
Uncleanliness.

This refers to those who have come under observation during the course of their routine medical inspection.
