HYGIENIC CONDITIONS OF THE SCHOOLS.
In my Annual Reports for the years 1911 and 1912 I gave a
review of the hygienic condition of all Public Elementary Schools
in the Borough.
Attention was drawn to the sanitary conveniences, lighting,
heating, ventilation, desks, seats and playgrounds.
In all these matters improvements are being effected.
The following alterations have been made at the schools
named since the last Annual Report :—
General Repairs and Re-Decoration.
External painting at Napier Road and Sandringham Road
Schools.
Internal repairs and re-decoration at Walton Road, Manor
Park, High Street, and Kensington Avenue Schools.
Removal of Galleries.
Essex Road Infants' School.
Alteration to Windows.
Walton Road Girls' School.
Erection of Glazed Partitions.
Moveable glazed partitions have been erected in the Boys'
Departments of Central Park, Plashet Lane, and Shrewsbury Road
Schools.
Alterations of Scholars' Desks.
The desks in Shrewsbury Road Girls' School have been
altered by providing a modern pattern of desk standard and
reducing the size of the desks.
Lighting of Schools.
Electric light was installed at Central Park Road Schools
during the summer vacation of 1913.
It is proposed to instal electric light at Shaftesbury Road
School during the next summer vacation, and the Education Committee
have at present under consideration the question of
improving the artificial lighting at all schools where flat flame
burners are at present in use.
