CHILDREN'S DISEASES.
The four principal Zymotic Diseases which are responsible for
most of the deaths of children are Diphtheria (including Membranous
Croup), Diarrhœa, Measles, and Whooping Cough.
From these four diseases there has been 316 deaths, being equal
to a death.rate of 2.70 per 1,000 per annum, as compared with the
preceding year of 147 deaths and a death.rate of 1.33.

The following table shows deaths and rates per annum from these four specific diseases for the past five years

OFFICIAL RETURNS OF INFECTIOUS
DISEASES.
Weekly returns have been made of all infectious cases to the
Local Government Board, and monthly returns to the Medical
Officer of Health of the Essex County Council.
The Teachers of Day and Sunday Schools are informed of all
cases attending their respective schools.
The Librarians, Pawnbrokers, and School Attendance Officers
are also notified.
DISINFECTION.
1,083 houses, and a number of borrowed books from infected
houses have been disinfected before being again circulated from
the Public Libraries.
