The number of rats found dead was 21.
The Council employ three men as ratcatchers, who give their whole time
to rat destruction on premises where the occupiers are not in a position to
carry out this work.
In addition to the National Rat Week in November, it was decided to
hold three extra rat weeks in February, May and August, in collaboration
with the adjoining Boroughs of Bethnal Green, Shoreditch and Poplar, when
poisoned bait was to be laid in the manholes and side entrances of the sewers
in and adjoining the boundary roads of the respective Boroughs.

Acts
22 applications were received during the year for Certificates that certain
houses were not in a reasonable state of repair. 2! were granted and 1 was
refused. In addition, 6 applications were received for Reports that the work
mentioned on the Certificates had been satisfactorily executed. All were
granted.
Water
Certificates,
Certificates were granted under the provisions of the Public Health
(London) Act, 1891, as to dwelling houses having a proper and sufficient
supply of water with respect to 11 houses and 98 tenements.
Hairdressers'
Shops.
Annual certificates are granted respecting Hairdressers' Shops in the
Borough, which come up to a certain standard of cleanliness.
6 applications were received during the year for certificates, all ot which
were granted.
