Notification A complete review of this register has taken place this year and the
Register. register to all intents and purposes now contains only those cases who are
known to be alive and to be living in Stepney. There are still a certain
proportion of cases which it is hoped to be able to take off in the near future.
These are the cases who have surely recovered by now. The difficulty
here is that they cannot be taken off the register without first being examined
by a Medical Officer, and it can be understood that it is not easy to persuade
a patient who is feeling perfectly fit, to present himself for examination. The
dispensary returns show that the condition of 188 such cases was not ascertained
during the year. The majority of these cases could be taken off as
" recovered " if they could only be examined.
The Tuberculosis Officers have this constantly in mind, and it is hoped
before long to be able to take most of these 188 cases off the register.
