Pursuant to the Third Section of the Canal Boats Acts, 1884, the Metropolitan
Borough of Stepney, being the Registration Authority under the above
Acts, has to report as follows with regard to the Execution of such Acts and of
the Regulations made thereunder, and as to the steps taken by them as such
authority during the year 1931 to give effect to the provisions of the said Acts
and Regulations, viz.:—
(1) Canal Boats coming within the district are inspected by a Sanitary
Inspector, who receives a sum of £10 per annum for the performance of this
duty. His inspection is irrespective of the examination of Boats made by the
Examining Officer prior to their registration.
(2) The number of Boats inspected in 1931 was 38.
Only three children were found on the boats.
Four boats were found not to comply with the Acts and Regulations, viz.:
Boats not properly marked and cabins not properly ventilated.
All these were referred to the Ministry of Health.
There is only one boat on the register.
No boats were registered during 1931.
