Reverend Sir, My Lord, and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to lay before you
the Annual Table of the Causes of Death in the
Parish during the year 1861, also to present you
with a Report of the work of the Sanitary Inspector
during the same year. Although such tables and
reports speak for themselves, I avail myself of your
permission to make those remarks which a comparison
between the results of this and previous
years seem to demand.
THE CENSUS.
Previous, however, to making any reference to the
tables at present, I would call your attention to the
results of the Census which was completed in the
year 1861. I should have been glad if I could
have presented you with a more complete comparison
between the state of your population in 1851 and
1861, but at present I have been prevented from
doing so by the fact that the Registrar-General is
still engaged in reducing the returns made in 1861
