214
and 371 female children, 642 occurred in St. Mary's,
and 109 in St. John's Sub-district. The 751 births
were equivalent to an annual rate of 24.9 per 1,000
of the estimated population of the Parish. In London
the births were equivalent to an annual rate of 30.6
per 1,000 inhabitants.
Deducting from the total deaths (540) those of 71
non-parishioners—70 in St. Mary's Hospital and 1 in
the Lock Hospital—the corrected number of deaths
in the Parish is seen to be 469. To this number must
be added the deaths of 40 parishioners in extra-parochial
hospitals and institutions within the Metropolis
during the same period, making a total of 509 deaths
—244 males and 265 females—equivalent to an annual
death-rate of 16'9 per 1,000 inhabitants.
The number of births and deaths, together with
the birth and death-rates in the Parish, and in its two
sub-districts during the quarter, is shown in the subjoined
table:—
