streets are swept daily, especially wood paved roads;
other roads, where the traffic is not so great, are swept
two or three times weekly.
Sanding Frosty Roads.
When necessary, men, horses, and sanding machines
were sent out before midnight and in the early hours
of the morning scattering sand and shingle, 515 horses
and carts being out on 41 occasions, the total hours
worked being 515, and 686 cubic yards of shingle,
326 chaldrons of ashes, and 100 cubic yards of hoggin
being used.
Road Watering.
The vans and horses were out on 108 days, 3,438
being thus engaged, giving an average of 31.83 per
day.

The quantity of water used and the cost thereof, including that used for road-making purposes, being as follows:—

On the mains of the Grand Junction Water
Company there are 44 standposts, and on the West
