REPORT, 1891.92. 75
During the early part of the year complaints were
received as to the rough state of the repaired gravel
roads, and asking the Vestry to have them rolled
similarly as the broken granite roads. The ten.ton
steam road.rollers being too heavy for this class of
work, as by their weight the stones get crushed, and
there being also a liability to damage the gas and
water mains and service pipes, it was decided to hire
a six.ton steam roller for three months with the
option of purchase at the end of such time, the cost
of hire to form part of purchase.money. The roller
was found to do the work very satisfactorily, and it
was deemed desirable to purchase it with a view of
using it to assist in consolidating the gravel roads in
future.
