In his report to the Registrar-General, Mr. James
Glaisher, F.R.S., remarks that in April the weather was
variable; that for a few days it was genial and warm, and
then became cold again and ungenial, with strong N.E.
winds. The amount of rain was somewhat in excess of the
average all over the country. The first half of the month of
May was cold, afterwards S.W. winds prevailed. The weather
was generally fine, with occasional bright and warm sunshine.
The nights were frequently cold. There was very
little rain. The month of June was unsettled: the first
half was very cold. With the exception of three or four
days, rain fell daily, and towards the end of the month
thunderstorms were frequent, with heavy rain and hail.
In London the rainfall in the 13 weeks ending 3rd July,
1880, was 5.06.
