From the 7 principal Zymotic diseases there were 42
deaths. It must, however, be borne in mind that these
figures represent only those deaths which occurred in the
parish, no cognizance being taken of the cases of smallpox
or of scarlet fever removed to Highgate or to the London
Fever Hospital, or to the hospitals of the Metropolitan
Asylum Board. Of the 42 deaths, 26 occurred in St. Mary's
Sub-district and 16 in St. John's, giving an annual death
rate in the former district of 1.4 per 1,000 of the population,
and in the latter of 1.6. In Paddington the deaths were at
the annual rate of 1.5 per 1,000, in London 2.9, in Leeds
1.4, and in Swansea 11.5. From measles, scarlet fever,
whooping cough, and typhoid fever the deaths were fewer
than in the previous quarter, as also were those from the
other causes of death not of the zymotic class mentioned in
Table IV.
