Simple Continued Fever.—One death was registered
from this disease.
Diarrhœa.—The corrected mortality was 47 ; corresponding
to a rate of .78 per 1,000. The annual average number of
deaths for the last ten years was 51. Six hundred and eighty two
cases were reported, of which 115 occured in Limehouse, 264 in
Ratcliff, and 303 in Shadwell and Wapping. The majority of these
casos were derived from a return made by the Medical Officer of the
Fast London Childrens' Hospital, which is situated in the Parish of
Shadwell.
Constitutional Diseases caused 225 deaths and included
10 from Pickets, 32 from Cancer, 24 from Tabes Mesenterica,
22 from Tubercular Meningitis, 114 from Phthisis, and 10 from
Scrofula. The deaths from Cancer still increase; in 1887 they
were 22; in 1888, 29, and in 1889, 32; in the five years, 1877 to
1881, the average yearly number was only 13.
Developmental Diseases caused 77 deaths, and included
20 from Premature Birth, and 57 from old age.
Local Diseases caused 714 deaths, and included 152 from
diseases of the Nervous System, 89 from diseases of the Circulatory
System, 350 from diseases of the Respiratory Organs, 71 from
diseases of the Organs of Digestion, and 30 from Diseases of the
Urinary System.
Eighty-one deaths were due to Violence, of which
number 73 were the result of accident or negligence.
Sixty-two deaths were registered from Debility,
Sanitary Work.—For the details of the routine Sanitary
work carried out by the Inspectors, I beg to refer you to
Table VI. The Inspectors' duties have increased considerably
