inhabited houses, and the number of births, deaths, and marriages in the year 1875, and 10 years preceding

As shown by the above Table, the average number of persons
in each house at the census in 1871 was 7.5. I have no reason to
suppose that these figures do not represent the average number of
persons in each house in 1875. The population of the District I
estimate at 58,659, which number, allowing 7.5 persons to each
house, Avould indicate that there is in the District 7,820 inhabited
houses: this number agrees closely with the figures of a return
recently made to me. It thus appears that your District, the area
of which is 576 acres, has a population of 58,659 persons, who
inhabit 7,820 houses, which numbers give an average of about 100
