SEWERS AND HOUSE DRAINAGE.
A great deal of attention was given to the cleansing of the
sewers throughout the division, both by means of the automatic
flushing tanks, of which there are 74 at work, and by flushing
carts, using plain water and also permanganate of potash. The
brick sewers are regularly scrubbed and the pipe sewers brushed
out with specially designed brooms, and every possible precaution
is taken to keep the sewers clean.
A new sewer was laid in the Mount, Sydenham-hili-road,
cutting off the old line which crossed into Mount Ash-road. This
