decision. In some instances it was necessary for me to attend
personally at the London County Council.
A large number of artificial flags were made by the Board's
men at Molesworth.street. Sheds are greatly wanted at this
Depot for the manufactory of these flags and other purposes.
Portions of the River Ravensbourne and Quaggy were regularly
cleaned out. This costs a good deal of money, and the v\ork
required constant attention. A large scale plan was prepart of
the Bromley.road showing a give and take line for widening the
road, and which will be a great improvement when carried out.
Catford and Ladywell bridges are not yet widened, but in the
case of Catford bridge I expect to hear soon of the work being
commenced.
The Gas and Water Companies made 950 openings in the
public roads and footways for the purpose of repairing old services
and laying new ones. Several new mains were laid and old ones
repaired.
Tn carrying out alterations to buildings and the erection of
new ones adjoining public thoroughfares, 21 hoarding licenses
were granted to builders for the encroachments made upon the
footpaths
A list of Automatic Flushing Tanks, with the size of the
Syphons, in use in the division, is attached to this report, together
with a list of the roads and streets maintained by the Board,
giving the total mileage.
Many specifications and estimates were prepared during the
year; a large number of letters and reports were written, and 429
plans and tracings were made.
I have the honour to be,

Your obedient humble servant,
