PARLIAMENTARY SCHEMES.
The only Bill deposited affecting the roads and sewers of
the District was the Shortlands and Nunhead Railway, a lino
miles long, connecting Shortlands, on the main line of the
London Chatham and Dover Railway, with Nunhead, upon the
same Company's system. The Bill is now before Parliament,
and is opposed. I made a report on the line (Min., 33-17-1),
and the promoters having agreed to certain conditions as to roads,
bridges, sewers, &c., the Board are now supporting the Bill.
There can be no doubt if the line be made it will be very useful
to the public.
FLOODING, FRONTAGE LINES, &c.
I regret to say that during the months of July and August
some serious flooding took place in several parts of the District,
caused by the heavy rainfall. I made a general report upon the
subject (Min., 319-18-3) to the Works and General Purjjoses
Committee, and after a great deal of consideration my recommendations
were approved.
I have now the works relating to Penge in hand, which I
hope to complete as early as possible.
There were 15 communications received from the Superintending
Architect of the Metropolitan Board of Works, asking

Hamlet of Penge.
