VII. Moved by Mr. Richardson seconded by Mr. Upton and
resolved—That a letter be sent by the Clerk to the North
Metropolitan Tramways Company informing the Company
that if the work ordered to be done by the Vestry is not
started within ten days the Vestry will take action.
VIII. The Report of Committee No. 3 was brought up and read
by the Clerk as follows:
To the Vestry of the Hamlet of Mile End Old Town.
Report of Committee No. 3.
For Drainage, Sewerage and Nuisances.
Wednesday, 17th April, 1889.
Your Committee beg to report that they met on Wednesday,
the 10th day of April, inst., there being present Messrs.
Coker, Downton, Dinn, T. J. Smith, Brown, Dale, and Davis.
That your Surveyor brought up and read a report for which
your Committee beg to refer your Board to his Report Book.
(1) That your Surveyor reported that the Sewer in the Commercial
Road, part situate in this Hamlet and part in
St. George-in-the-East, is in a deplorable condition, and that
nothing whatever had been done by the Vestry of St. Georgein-the-East,
under the Order of the Metropolitan Board of
Works, dated 21st December, 1888.
That your Committee having considered the matter resolved
to recommend—That your Board do refer the matter to your
Committee, with power to take such proceedings by mandamus
or otherwise, as they may be advised, to compel the
carrying out of the Order.
That your Medical Officer of Health brought up and read a
report for which your Committee beg to refer your Board to
his Report Book.
(2) That your Medical Officer reported as follows:
"During the week ending March 30th, the number of
"Births were 76. The number of Deaths from all causes
"were 35—18 males and 17 females; giving a death-rate
"of 16.2 per 1,000 per annum: that of the Metropolis
"being 17.7 for the same period."
That your Sub-Sanitary Inspector brought up and read a
Report, for which your Committee beg to refer your Board to
his Report Book.
(3) That having regard to such Report your Committee resolved
to recommend—That notice be served upon the owner of
No. 20, New Road, requiring him—
To repair the drain thereat, and provide a proper gully trap
to the urinal in rear of such premises.
(4) That your Sub-Inspector reported that since the last meeting
the following works had been performed, viz.:
