Sixteen deaths were due to influenza compared with
37 during 1929. Ten of these deaths were in persons
over 65 years of age.
It will be observed that the outstanding features of
the above figures were:—
(1) The marked decrease in the mortality from respiratory
diseases, which caused 332 deaths in 1930 compared
with 701 during the previous year; this difference was
due to a large extent to the unfavourable climatic
conditions at the beginning of 1929.
(2) The increase in the number of deaths from diseases of
the circulation which accounted for 539 deaths in 1930
but only 383 in 1929.
The total number of deaths was 446 less in 1930
than in 1929.
