Deaths and Death-Hate.
The deaths of 2,298 persons, 1,111 males and 1,187 females,
were registered in Fulham during the year, but of these 367—
200 males and 167 females—were of persons not residing in the
district who died in public institutions within the borough;
while the deaths of 248 persons—130 males and 118 females—
belonging to Fulham occurred outside the district, chiefly in
various public institutions. There were, therefore, 2,179 deaths
of residents in Fulham—1,041 males and 1,138 females—the
mortality being at the rate of 15.78 per per 1,000 for the year, the
rate for males being 16.1 and for females 15.6 and is the lowest
that has been recorded in the district.
Localisation of Deaths.
In Table XXI. will be seen the number and the causes of
the deaths occurring in the several wards of the Borough, and
the following table gives the death-rates of each ward:—

The death-rate of the County of London was 17.1, and of
the three adjoining boroughs that of Kensington was 15.2, of
Hammersmith 17.0, and of Chelsea 16.6.
The lowest rates in the 28 metropolitan boroughs were 10.7
in Hampstead, 13.0 in Lewisham. and 13.2 in Stoke Newington;
the highest rates were 21.4 in Finsbury, 21 5 in Southwark,
and 21.9 in Shoreditch.
In the 32 large provincial towns of England and Wales the
death-rate was 19.2, the lowest rates being 22.5 in Halifax, 22.7
in Huddersfield, and 23'2 in Bradford; and the highest 21.9 in
Newcastle, 22.1 in Manchester, and 22.3 in Liverpool.
