Accountant's Department,
September 27th, 1887.
To the Chairman and Members
of the Finance Committee.
Gentlemen,
re Account for Hammersmith Road maintenance.
In accordance with your instructions, re above, I beg to report
I have looked over the late District Board's agreement and specification
for the wood paving works in the Hammersmith Road, also the Report
of the Clerk of Works asked for by the Hammersmith Vestry as to the
completion of same, and I am of opinion that the amount, viz.
£48 9s. 11d., arrived at by the Hammersmith Vestry's Accountant, is
a fair sum to take off for the period during which the road was closed.
But a further sum of £42 9s. 10d. should be allowed for the time, viz.,
three months, the contractor had to maintain the road, this being the
usual custom.
This sum I should advise the Finance Committee to recommend the
Vestry to offer Hammersmith Vestry in full discharge of their claim as
per account rendered.
I am, Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
R. HERMANN MEYER,
Accountant to the Vestry.
This the Vestry adopted, and instructed the Clerk to the Vestry to
inform Hammersmith Vestry accordingly, giving them a copy of the
figures. That Vestry ultimately accepted our offer.
Hammersmith Vestry.
The total sums paid to the above Vestry during 1887-8, including
1886-7 liabilities for Rent of Wharf, Mortuary, &c., Removing and
Disinfecting Bedding, Clothing, &c., for Superannuations paid to
Officials of the late District Board, and for Maintenance of Hammersmith
Road, amounts to £1,403 2s. Id.
