&c., had a marketable value. The Vestry will see that my impression
was not incorrect when I say that Paddington Vestry, in
1886, sold the siftings of their dust for £1,483 18s.
The dealing with the dust of London is a very difficult question,
and will occupy the attention of the different vestries considerably
during the next year. A combination of the sorting
process for the valuable products and a destructor for the waste unsanitary
portion will probably be found the best and cheapest
method of dealing with the problem.

While many of these complaints are without just reason, and
frequently arise through people refusing admission to the dustmen
on the first occasion when they call, the statement is not satisfactory,
and I recommend that the number of complaints be
printed on the agenda of each meeting of the Cartage Committee.
For some reason the control of the dust has been
recently removed from the Cartage to the Sanitary Committee.
This appears to be shifting the responsibility from the Surveyor's
department to that of the Medical officer's, and I have
lost control over the working of the department, although I al-
