Smallpox.
The mild type of smallpox which has been endemic in the
Borough for the last five years showed during the year 1932 a
greatly diminished prevalence. The number of cases reported during
the year was 67.
The Registrar-General in his classification of Camberwell
deaths records one case as due to this disease. The stated cause of
death was certified as follows:-(a) Cardiac failure; (6) Senility;
(c) Variola.
The surveillance of contacts was continued in the manner, as
in the previous year, when modifications of certain measures of
control procedure as suggested by the Ministry of Health were
introduced.
Sixty-seven cases of smallpox occurred in 49 premises and
hospitals in the Borough, and the number of families affected was 51.
Forty-one females and 26 males in age groups as follows:-
