Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts. Alteration of Character
of Instruction.
During the early part of 1930 the Council's attention was
drawn to a proposal which was before the Education Committee
of the London County Council to alter the character of the instruction
given at the Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts and transfer
higher technical education elsewhere. The Council passed resolutions
protesting against the proposal, and asking the neighbouring
Borough Councils to support this Council.
In a letter replying to the Borough Council's observations, the
County Council stated that after careful consideration they
regretted they did not see their way to depart from their decision on
the scheme. The County Council added that they felt the Borough
Council was under a misapprehension in taking the view that the
effect of the proposed new scheme would be to vary the character
(ii) The following juvenile lectures were delivered at the South London Art Gallery upon Tuesday afternoons at 3.30; These were scheduled by the London County Council as "Educational Visits," and were held during school hours, the scholars attending in groups of twenty or forty, accompanied by a teacher, from each school. Average attendance 290.
