REGISTRATION SUB-DISTRICTS.
For Registration purposes the Parish is divided into four Districts,
Church, Town, Green and Hackney Road; these divisions were made
many years ago, they are very irregular and intersect each other in a
most marvellous manner.
At the last census, taken in 1881, the enumerated population of
the whole Parish was 127,006.
I am of opinion that there has been very little change in the
numbers of the inhabitants of the Town and Hackney Road districts
since the last enumeration, as no increase took place between the two
census enumerations of 1871 and 1881, moreover the area of both
districts is fully built over. I believe the principal increase in the
population of Bethnal Green has taken place in the Church and Green
districts, which last includes more than half the area of the Parish.
The following Table compares the distribution of the population of Bethnal Green as enumerated in 1871 and 1881 with my estimate for 1886.
