THE SEVEN PRINCIPAL ZYMOTIC DISEASES.
The deaths from the diseases grouped under the orders Miasmatic
and Diarrhœal were 507, against 463 last year ; an increase of
44. The decennial average of Zymotic deaths for the ten years,
1876 to 1885 was 562 (see Table V.)
In Table D are shewn the deaths from each of these diseases
compared with those of the preceding year. From this it will
be seen that the increase has occurred chiefly under the heads of
Whooping Cough, Diarrhœa, and Enteric Fever ; while Scarlet Fever
and Measles shew a considerable decrease.

Of the total deaths from all causes rather more than 16½ per cent,
were referred to the diseases included in the above-mentioned
Table against 16 per cent, in 1885.
The death rate from Zymotic diseases was 3.9 against 3.5 last
year.
