A table is appended which shews the nationality of the foreigners
residing in the parish. For the sake of comparison I shew the
neighbouring Parish of Whitechapel, which has a greater number of
resident aliens than any other district in the metropolis.
Most of the foreigners in Bethnal Green are Germans, these number
451; then come Poles, 197; and Dutch, 65; compare with these the
enormous number of Poles, Germans, and Dutch in Whitechapel,
the total population of which was in 1881 only 71,363 persons, little
more than half that of Bethnal Green.

The population of the parish comprised in 1871—120,104 persons, of whom 59,073 were males and 61,031 females. In 1881 these had increased to 126,961 persons, of whom 62,546 were males and 64,415 females.

These were distributed in the various districts of the parish as under:—
