ANNUAL DEATH RATE.
Taking the estimated population as the basis of our calculation, we
shew an annual death rate for the year 1882 of 24.1 per thousand,
almost the same as last year, but above the average rate for the ten
years, 1872 to 1881, which is only 23.3. The corresponding rates for
the whole of London were 21.2 in 1881 and 21.4 in 1882.
The rate for 1882 in the western districts of the metropolis was 19.9;
in the north, 19.7 ; in the central, 23.9 ; in the south, 20.7 ; and in the
east, 25.3, so that the mortality in Bethnal Green was slightly more
than one per thousand below that of the whole of the eastern districts
taken together.
The following table compares the mortality for London and for
Bethnal Green by quarters.
