Warnings were given to the vendors of the adulterated samples,
except in six instances in which legal proceedings were taken; five
of these proceedings related to milk and one to cream. No fines
were imposed but the vendors were ordered to pay costs amounting
to 6 guineas.
The average composition of all the formal milk samples taken
was 3.5 per cent. milk fat and 8.94 per cent. solids, not fat.
PREVALENCE OF, AND CONTROL OVER. INFECTIOUS
AND OTHER DISEASES.
During the year under review 705 cases of notifiable infectious
disease occurred as compared with 1,492 cases in the previous year.
The principal reductions were: Scarlet fever from 319 to 121,
pneumonia from 146 to 109, ophthalmia neonatorum from 28 to 18,
whooping cough from 633 to 28.
