HOUSING ACT. 1936.
CLEARANCE AND REHOUSING.
In spite of war conditions 130 unfit houses included in confirmed
clearance orders were demolished and the 638 residents were rehoused.
The buildings demolished now total 936 and residents
re-housed 4,473. Clearance areas not yet wholly cleared of buildings
are Hindrey Place, 13 houses; Elizabeth Buildings, 24 flats; Bower
Road (No. 2 area), 2 houses, and Conduit Street (Nos. 1 and 2 areas),
4 houses.
RECONDITIONING OF INSANITARY HOUSES.
Inspections and repair work were in progress up to the end of
August, a few days before the first serious air-raid occurred in
Hackney. During the year 42 houses were inspected with a view to
securing reconditioning under Section 9 of the Housing Act.
Informal notices were served in respect of 45 houses and 33 formal
notices weere served. Houses made fit numbered 69; of these, 50 were
made fit following the service of informal notices and 19 following
formal notices.
