London County Council (General Powers) Act, 1922.
Verminous Premises.
Powers are granted by this Act to local authorities to cleanse,
disinfect or destroy any unwholesome articles in any house, or to
require the owner or occupier of any house that is in a verminous
condition to cleanse the premises.
For some years past it has been the practice of the School
Medical Authority to give notice to the Borough Council of school
children who have been required by notice to submit to treatment
at the Cleansing Station, and to ask that steps be taken to deal with
their homes under the above Act.

Such information was received in 58 cases during the past year, and the homes were inspected with the following results:—

No. of Homes Inspected.No. of Homes where Rooms alone were found Verminous.No. of Homes where bedd'ng or Clothes and Rooms were found Verminous.No. of Homes not Verminous.

There were also 64 notices received from the London County
Council in respect of children suffering from scabies, and 23 notices
from hospitals in respect of out-patients. Thirty-two cases were
referred for treatment by private practitioners. The bedding in
these cases was disinfected on receipt of information and again 10
days later.
In addition to the cleansing of verminous rooms or premises
by owners and tenants after service of notice by the Sanitary
Inspectors, 935 rooms at 633 premises, where neither tenant nor
owner could be shown to be directly responsible, were cleansed of
vermin by spraying by the staff of the Public Health Department.
During the year, owing to the difficulties in obtaining reliable
insecticide and the apparatus with which to apply it, arrangements
were continued to loan hancl-sprayers and sell insecticide at cost
price to owners and tenants in order to assist them in clearing their
premises of vermin. Material to the value of £267 0s. 7d. was sold
for this purpose. This consisted of 4,860 pints of insecticide and
538 sprayers loaned or sold.
