SANITARY CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE AREA.
WATER SUPPLY.
The water supply of the Borough is under the control of the
Metropolitan Water Board. Two complaints from householders
regarding the condition of the water were investigated and a sample
of the water in each case was submitted to the Public Analysts.
The examination in one case gave a satisfactory result, and in regard
to the other sample the Analyst reported that the taste of tar was
so marked that the water was unfit for drinking purposes. It
appears that the tenant had emptied and cleaned the tank and
painted it with a preparation of pitch and tar. Arrangements were
made for the supply to be drawn direct from the main.
Complaints of defective water fittings at 215 premises were
forwarded to the Metropolitan Water Board during the year.
SEWERS.
During the year the Sanitary Inspectors reported 7 premises
on which the sewers were defective and repairable by the Borough
Council. These were referred to the Borough Engineer for his
attention.
